When I first picked up Gothikana by RuNyx, I was immediately captivated by the hauntingly beautiful cover and promise of dark, gothic romance. I had heard whispers of it being a story that combined mystery, romance, and an eerie, atmospheric setting, and I was eager to see if it could live up to that promise. As soon as I started reading, I was pulled into a world of shadows, secrets, and intense emotions, and I knew I was in for a mesmerizing ride.

Introduction & Summary: Gothikana tells the story of Corvina Clemm, a young woman who finds herself at Verenmore, a secluded and mysterious university nestled in the mountains. The school has a dark history, filled with rumors of disappearances, ghostly apparitions, and a forbidden area that no one dares to enter. Corvina is an outsider, someone who doesn't quite fit into the norms of society, but her intrigue with a strange university makes her stay despite the unsettling feeling that something is always watching.

Enter Van Deverell, the enigmatic professor with a dark, magnetic presence. He's mysterious, and aloof, and seems to know more about the secret of Verenmore than he lets on. As Corvina tries to navigate the strange rules and hidden corridors of the school, she becomes entangled with Vad. Together, they uncover the sinister history of Verenmore, but as the past and present start to collide, they realize that the truth might be darker than they ever entangled.

The story that gripped me: From the moment I started reading, I was hooked by the dark, eerie atmosphere of the book. There's a constant sense of foreboding, like something dangerous is lurking just out of sight, and that feeling kept me turning the pages, wanting to find out more. The blend of Gothic mystery with a forbidden romance was incredibly well done, making me feel like I was uncovering secrets alongside Corvina.

The tension between Corvina and Vad was electric. Their relationship starts with intrigue, then slowly morphs into something more intense and forbidden. I was fascinated by how their dynamic played out, with both characters trying to maintain a sense of control while being undeniably drawn to each other.

Themes & Writing Style: Gothikana dives deep into themes of darkness and light, trust and betrayal, and the allure of the forbidden. There's a sense of exploring the unknown, not just in the literal sense with the secrets of Verenmore, but also emotionally, as Corvina and Vad push each other to confront their fears and desires. It's a story about letting yourself be vulnerable even when it's terrifying and about how love can be both a refuge and a danger. RuNyx's writing is poetic, atmospheric, and filled with dark, sensual undertones. She knows how to build tension, whether it's through a suspenseful mystery or a charged, stolen glance between characters.

Relationship & Main Trope: The relationship between Corvina and Vad is intense, built on a mix of curiosity, attraction, and a sense of danger. As a "forbidden romance" between a student and professor, it is layered with gothic elements that add unpredictability. What makes their connection compelling is how they see something familiar in each other's darkness, challenging and revealing parts of themselves they usually keep hidden.

Ambiance: The setting of Verenmore University is almost like the character itself. It's a place where shadows seem to move, where whispers echo through the empty hallways, and where every creak and groan of the old building feels like it's hiding a secret. The gothic ambiance is rich, moody, and chilling. It gave me the same feeling as reading a classic gothic novel, like Jane Eyre or Rebecca, where the setting adds to the suspense and mystery.  The constant fog, dark woods, and ancient architecture made the story feel like it was set in a place lost in time, separate from the rest of the world.

Quotes:
~"The darkness isn't always to be feared. Sometimes, it's where we find ourselves."

~"I am not afraid of the dark. I am afraid of what I will see in the light."

~"Some people have a madness within them, a darkness that's beautiful if you know how to look at it."

~"The most dangerous things are the ones that make you feel alive."

~"Books had become her refuge, especially books with men- humans, shapeshifters, or aliens- who fell in love hard and claimed their women, body, and soul, were her favorite."

~" I will never be a good man. But you don't need a good man, do you? You need a devil to fight your demons because you don't want to fight them alone."

General Thoughts: I loved Gothikana for how it managed to blend gothic elements with a steamy, forbidden romance. It keeps you on edge, not just with the intense relationship but also with the secrets of Verenmore. The complex, flawed characters and the exploration of their darker sides added depth. The mystery unraveled with satisfying twists, maintaining suspense without feeling overly complicated.

Final Reflection: Gothikana is a dark, hauntingly beautiful tale that immerses you in its eerie, gothic world. RuNyx masterfully blends classic and contemporary elements, creating an atmosphere perfect for those who love romance with a touch of danger and mystery. If you're drawn to slow-burn, forbidden love set against a backdrop of chilling secrets, this spellbinding read will linger with you long after the final page, making you yearn to return to Verenmore's dark allure.
